Greetings BTCA Members and Neighbours,
I hope you are all doing well, and enjoying our usual meteorological chaos of springtime in Calgary. I am writing you today to share an update on some personnel changes in the Board of Directors, and invite you all to a Special General Meeting of the BTCA on Thursday April 24th at 7pm.
Over the past couple months we have had a number of directors and volunteers stepping back from their commitments with the association due to changing demands in their own personal and professional lives. We sincerely appreciate the dedication and hard work they have put in over the years, and completely understand that we all have busy lives. This has however meant significantly scaling back our programs and activities. As a volunteer organization, we can only do as much as we have volunteers to do.
Where we are now is our Board is down to 4 people, which leaves us short of the minimum quorum of 7 Directors as required in our association bylaws. As such, we need a Special General Meeting to facilitate the appointment of at least 3 new directors. Our board maximum is 15 total, so don’t be shy! Per our current bylaws, all are welcome at the meeting, however only current members residing within the boundaries of the Banff Trail neighbourhood are eligible to vote at the meeting. Any member including those residing outside the boundaries can be appointed to the Board.
That said, we are well positioned by having 3 of the 4 executive chairs filled by experienced board members. It’s a leadership I share with two fantastic people- Kathy Quinn-Bayrack as Treasurer, and Pat Oscienny as Vice-President and hero managing our huge facilities portfolio. We’re in a stable financial position with a solid administrative base to get us going, but we need your help to start making things happen.
So this is where you come in! What would you like your community association to be all about? What would you like to see, and what can you do to help realize your vision for us? Volunteering as a Director on the Board is a great way to engage with your neighbourhood, and be a part of guiding our future activities.
If you’re interested or just curious to know more about what being on the Board is all about, please get in touch. I’d be happy to fill you in. If sitting in on the Board isn’t really for you, there are also plenty of ways you can engage with your areas of interest. One does not need to be a Director to get involved, and coming out to the General Meeting is a great place to make connections to get started.
